Opportunities
with The Perinatal Council
The Perinatal Council is a non-profit organization serving
Alameda and Contra Costa Counties in Northern California.
The agency provides programs and services for at-risk pregnant
and parenting women, their children, and their family circle.
There are a number of volunteer opportunities available to
help the agency meet its goals of providing education, counseling,
referrals, and resources for targeted client groups. See Baby

The
Perinatal Council also offers learning
and training opportunities for a variety of academic and
professional settings.
Volunteers
serve without compensation beyond reimbursement of direct
expenses, at the direction of, and on behalf of, The Perinatal Council. They are not considered employees of
the organization, but because they often represent the council
to the public, they must adhere to the same standards of professionalism,
courtesy, appropriateness, promptness, reliability, and confidentiality
we expect of our employees.
Volunteers
serve in all programs and activities of The Perinatal Council,
at all levels of skill and decision making. All volunteers
receive a general orientation on the nature and purpose of
The Perinatal Council and the program or activity for which
they are volunteering. They receive a specific orientation
on the purposes and requirements of the volunteer position
they accept.
Each
volunteer has a supervisor who is responsible for the direct
management of the volunteer. Volunteers and staff members
are considered partners in program implementation, with each
having an equal but complementary role to play. Volunteers
receive an evaluation at the end of each placement; this evaluation
session is an opportunity for both the volunteer and the agency
to examine and strengthen the relationship.
