Our Philosophy

Almost all of the programs at The Perinatal Council feature a family case management approach—a one-to-one supportive relationship that engenders trust and openness. We focus on building healthy relationships between the caregiver and the child to maximize the healthy development of the baby.

The Family Advocate is the linchpin of our programs, because for many individuals and families, the Family Advocate may be their first and only positive role model. Family Advocates not only provide direct services to individuals and families, but they also link them to a full spectrum of other community programs and services, thus giving them "one-stop" access to the help they need, whatever its source. Having such an advocate makes it easier to navigate the system and receive critical services in a timely manner.

We also seek to build relationships among the individuals and families that we serve, recognizing that the support of one's peers is essential to building a healthy community.

We strive to be a "culturally competent" organization. Because we know there are many barriers to finding help, we intentionally hire staff who are sensitive to and reflect the cultural and linguistic character of the populations we serve.
