Internships
The Perinatal Council offers learning and training opportunities
for a variety of academic and professional settings.
High Schools: We offer a volunteer working environment
for Junior and Senior High School Students to learn more about
the social service and human services fields. Many students
in high school have no idea of the community resources available
today. They often have no direction nor any experience to
provide them with working knowledge to lead them in the fields
of giving back to their communities and having a direct impact
on their peers and their community. At The Perinatal Council,
we are committed to offering these youth an opportunity to
experience direct service working with their peers, collaborating
with our staff in case conferences and learning how work within
the non-profit sector can be a rich and rewarding experience
and can lead to a fruitful and rewarding career.
Universities and Colleges: The Perinatal Council offers
a variety of internships to undergraduate and graduate students.
We work with and offer clinical training to undergraduate
psychology and social work programs as well as offer graduate
social work and marriage and family internships. We have a
broad and diverse training program designed to meet the needs
of students. We offer individual and group supervision from
Master's level Social Workers and Licensed Marriage and Family
Therapists who are experts in the areas of infant/child/parent
mental health and have many years providing direct services
themselves to pregnant and parenting adolescents. We offer
licensure accrual hours for the Board of Behavioral Sciences
Examiners (BBSE), utilizing qualified supervisors who meet
the highest standard of supervision requirements. Internships
vary depending on experience as well as academic requirements
for each school program. Interns are expected to carry a minimum
case load of 5 clients and may offer a variety of services
to the clients ranging from intensive case management, child
development support, parenting classes, individual or family
therapy and/or co-facilitating groups for adolescent parents.
